This specimen was lot 4076 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €25 (about US$35 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Ku.-3 Pfennig 1839, D. 4.61 g. AKS 33; J. 44; Olding 203. Randfehler, fast vorzüglich. Erworben 1969. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, copper three pfennig of 1839. Rim nick, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1821-40 at Berlin (A), Bayreuth (B) and Düsseldorf (D). The 1837-A is a common date. Also struck for Frederick William were 1 pfenning (KM 405), 2 pfenninge (KM 406), 4 pfenninge (KM 408), half silber groschen (KM 409), groschen (KM 410), 1/6 thaler (KM 411) and thaler (KM 413).

Recorded mintage: unknown but a fairly common date.

Specification: 4.57 g, copper, 23 mm diameter, this specimen 4.72 g.
