The first specimen was lot 926 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia (German States), 2 taler, 1839-A, Friedrich Wilhelm III, NGC AU 58. Near Mint State with a touch of friction on the high areas, lustrous surfaces with red-gold toning throughout with darker shades around the rims. Pedigreed to the Zeitlos Collection (stated on label) and purchased from the Coin Galleries mail bid auction of July 13, 1954, lot #2903, with collector's envelope." The second specimen was lot 4057 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €600 (about US$835 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1839, A. Auf den unteren Falten des Wappenmantels die Signatur L - H (Medailleur August Ludwig Held). Vorzüglich. Erworben am 30.10.1968. (kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, double union thaler of 1839, with the engraver's initials in the lower folds of the mantle. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1839-40.

Specification: 37.11 g, 0.900 fine silver; the second specimen 37,09 g.
