Prussia 1837-A thaler Dav-764
This specimen was lot 717 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €400 (about US$517 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Taler 1837, A. Ausbeute. Prachtvolle Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, mining thaler of 1837. Magnificent patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This mining thaler was struck annually 1829-40 and is common. It shares the obverse with the regular issue (Dav-763) of 1828-40. Mining thalers were struck in Prussia until 1862.
Recorded mintage: 50,000 annually 1829-40.
