Prussia 1837-A 1/2 friedrichs d'or Fr-2430
This specimen was lot 4056 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. 1/2 Friedrichs d'or 1837, A. Kopf r. GOLD. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben am 23.1.1974 von der Frankfurter Münzhandlung, Frankfurt/Main. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, half frederick d'or of 1837, head right. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck in Berlin 1825-40 and is listed in the SCWC as a "half frederick d'or." The last friedrichs d'or was struck in 1855 (KM 469) and was replaced by the gold half krone (KM 493, struck 1862-69), which contained about 70/83 of the gold in the previous denomination. The gold half krone was in turn superseded by the gold ten mark of the German Empire.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date for the type.
