Prussia 1804-A 3 pfennig KM-374
This specimen was lot 4011 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. 3 Pfennig 1804, A. Prägung für die mittleren Provinzen. Mit großer Krone und breitem W auf der Vorderseite sowie kleinem Münzzeichen auf der Rückseite. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Slg. Johann Max Böttcher, Auktion Möller 42, Kassel 2006, Nr. 1121. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, three pfennig of 1804, struck for the middle provinces, with large crown and a wide W on the obverse and a small mintmark on the reverse.)"
The period 1801-06 marks the last of the billon 3 pfennige with numerous varieties listed. The SCWC notes KM 374 (large W, shown here) and KM 384 (small W). When the denomination was resumed in 1821, it was a copper coin.
Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
