Künker sale 353, part of lot 3654

This specimen was part of lot 3654 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €150 (about US$209 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3-Gröscher ...b) 3-Gröscher 1776 E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Greisenantlitz. Erworben im November 2003. ...2 Stück., Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three groscher of 1776, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, old head. [One of] two pieces, very fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin in 1774-76 and at Königsberg 1771-86. The Königsberg issue is common, the Berlin is somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: 741,595 for 1775-76.

Specification: 0.87 g, billon, 16 mm diameter, this specimen is 1,33 g.
