Prussia 1777-A 1/4 stuber
This specimen was lot 3704 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €35 (about US$49 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Ku.-1/4 Stüber 1777, A, Berlin. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. Sehr schön. Erworben am 23.2.1993 von Hanfried Bendig, Bremen. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, copper quarter stuber of 1777, struck for the western provinces. Very fine.)"
This type was struck 1777-81 and 1784 at the Berlin mint for East Friesland, the Aurich mint having closed in 1768. It accompanied a one stuber, a half stuber and a double stuber. Unusually for the period, it is pure copper.
