Sincona sale 39, lot 3057

This specimen was lot 3057 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$14,392 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Brandenburg-Prussia, Friedrich II. 1740-1786 Taler 1755. ohne Münzzeichen, Berlin Handelsmünze. Mit Kerbrand. Von grösster Seltenheit. Sehr schön. Bearbeitet. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II, 1740-86, thaler of 1755 without mintmark, Berlin mint. Of the highest rarity. Very fine, tooled.)"

The SCWC notes that this thaler, with its tiny mintage, is perhaps a pattern.
