Künker sale 353, lot 3587

This specimen was lot 3587 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1742, AGP, Cleve. Münzmeister Anton Gottfried Pott. RR Feine Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Galerie des Monnaies 25, Düsseldorf 1981, Nr. 295. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1742, Cleve mint. Fine patina, minor field marks, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Cleve 1741-50 but is noted as common. Altho valued at 1/48 thaler, this coin had 1/53 as much silver.

Recorded mintage: 426,096 for 1742-50.

Specification: 1.43 g, 0.219 fine silver, this specimen 1.37 g.
