Künker sale 264, lot 3618

This specimen was lot 3618 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,651 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Dukat 1741, EGN, Berlin. GOLD. R Prachtexemplar. Leichter Bug, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Mit altem Beschreibungskärtchen. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick the Great, 1740-86, ducat of 1741, Berlin mint. extremely fine to uncirculated, with old envelope.)"

This type of 1741-45 is the first gold coin issued by Frederick the Great. It was issued with the first frederick d'or (KM 233) which would eventually edge out the ducat as the primary Prussian gold coin.
