This specimen was lot 43264 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. Escudo, 1792. Lisbon Mint. Maria I. NGC AU-53." This type was struck 1789-96 for the widowed queen Maria I. It is frequently called an escudo altho it is not particularly close to the Spanish escudo in module.
