This specimen was lot 32649 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. Tostao, ND (1640-56). Porto Mint. Joao IV. PCGS VF-35. This appealing Tostado displays good details, with a deep tone and much charm. A good example that is deserved of many excited bids." João IV was the first Portuguese king after the Spanish were expelled in 1640. Hammered coins were produced at Porto, Lisbon and Évora, with Lisbon being the most available. Milled coinage was introduced in the 1680's.
