Poland 1840-NG 5 zlotych
This specimen was lot 342 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 3/4 Roubles - 5 Zlotych 1840, St. Petersburg Mint, NG. Mintage for Poland. Extremely rare, especially in this condition. 8 roubles according to Petrov. 75 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC MS63. Cabinet piece. From the Soedermann Collection, auction SINCONA 7, Zürich, October 2012, lot 1217 (price realized: CHF 170,000). (Most probably) from the Tolstoy collection, auction Adolph Hess Nachf., Frankfurt, March 1913, lot 1701."
This type was struck 1832-41 at Warsaw and St. Petersburg. Five złotych equaled three quarters of a ruble. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850 altho the Warsaw mint continued to operate.
