The first specimen was lot 1388 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "PHILIPPINES. 2 Reales, ND (Decree of December 14, 1835, suppressed March 31, 1837 (By Decree of February 1, 1836). Type VI countermark crowned Y.II. within circle. On an 1832-ZsOM Mexico 2 Reales. VERY RARE host coin. Countermark well struck and slightly off center. Holed and plugged at 1 o'clock on the obverse, cleaned. Moderately worn. Countermark AU Details, host coin PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF details Secure Holder." This specimen was lot 21320 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $3,760. The catalog description[2] noted, "PHILIPPINES. 2 Reales, ND (Decree of December 14, 1835, Suppressed March 31, 1837 (By Decree of February 1, 1836)). NGC VF Details--Excessive Surface Hairlines. RARE denomination. Clear countermark over a Guanajuato (Mexico) 1832-MJ 2 Reales. Lightly cleaned but still a terrific example of this SCARCE host coin and countermark combination. Ex: Gibbs Collection." This counterstamp was applied 1834-37 to Latin American pesos arriving in Manila from the newly independent republics, none of which were recognized by Spain. The SCWC lists over forty different types receiving this counterstamp. Counterstamped minor coinage is rare.
