Sincona sale 51, lot 3271

This specimen was lot 3271 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,327 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Pfalz-Kurlinie, Karl Theodor, 1742-1799. Gulden 1746, Mannheim. Auf die Huldigung in Heidelberg. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Germany, electorate of Pfalz, Charles Theodore, 1742-99, gulden of 1746, Mannheim mint, on the homage of Heidelberg. Extremely fine, Nice toning.)"

This rare type is listed in the SCWC as a half thaler, which is incorrect, as the weight is 4/9 of a convention thaler. Charles Theodore eventually inherited the electorate of Bavaria and united the Wittelsbach lines.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 12.47 g.

Catalog reference: KM 346, Hahn 204.
