The first specimen was lot 704 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMAN STATES. PFALZ-SULZBACH. Karl Theodor, 1742-1799. Ducat, 1742. Mannheim. Wedding of Karl Theodor and Elizabeth Augusta. Conjoined busts r. Rv. Twin oval shields under Electoral crown, Palatine House Joined in Connubial Bliss, By Senate and People of Mannheim. A pleasing Wedding coin boasting fine design and meticulous strike. MS-61 (NGC)." The second specimen was lot 20599 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Pfalz-Sulzbach. Ducat, 1742. Karl Theodor (1742-99). NGC MS-61. Mannheim city issue for the wedding of Karl Theodor and Elizabeth Augusta. Conjoined busts right; Reverse: Twin oval shields under Electoral crown, "Palatine House Joined in Connubial Bliss, By Senate and People of Mannheim". A pleasing wedding commemorative issue, boasting a meticulous strike, fields that possess charming gleam and a design that is far more refined than most." Another scarce one-year type.
