Brandenburg-Ansbach 1726 ducat Fr-340
The first specimen was lot 656 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMAN STATES. BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH. Regent Christiane Charlotte, 1723-1729. Ducat, 1726. Draped bust l., title TVTRIX, Regent for Karl Wilhelm Friedrich. Rv. Crowned monogram, GLORIA. DEI. CVRA. MEA. Here is a coin of exceptional beauty, one of the few German States issues portraying a ruling woman. Nearly invisible obverse lines appear under scrutiny with a glass. About Uncirculated and essentially Choice." The second specimen was lot 3895 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $3,162.50 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[2] noted, "German States - Brandenburg-Ansbach. Ducat, 1726. Christiane Charlotte, 1723-1729. Bust left. Reverse: Crown over linked C's. Well struck with original lustrous surfaces. NGC graded MS-63." The third specimen was lot 3613 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,098 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[3] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT Christiane Charlotte als Vormünderin ihres Sohnes Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, 1723-1729. Dukat 1726, Schwabach. GOLD. Leichte Bearbeitungsspuren im Feld, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, Margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Christine Charlotte, regent for her son Charles William Frederick, 1723-29, ducat of 1726, Schwabachmint. Lightly tooled in fields, very fine to extremely fine.)"
Yet another scarce one-year type, this one accompanied by a silver half thaler (KM 155) and thaler (KM 159). Brandenburg-Ansbach is in central Germany just north of Bavaria.
