This specimen is one of a series struck 1811-24 during the reign of Ferdinand VII (1808-33). This is the "standard bust." As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. Harris[1] noted finding more of this type than any other colonial Peruvian coin. The coin is common except for the last dates (1823-24) and those struck in Cuzco in 1824 before the final collapse of the royalist cause. Assayer "JP" is noted for the years 1803-23.

Recorded mintage: unknown but probably 3 to 4 million.
