Aureo sale 238, lot 107

This specimen was lot 107 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"1818. Guatemala. M. 8 reales. Golpecitos. Parte de brillo original. MBC+/EBC-. (eight reales of 1818, Guatemala mint. Rim nicks, luster, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type, called the "standard" or "proper" bust, was struck in Guatemala 1811-21. There are Guatemala eight reales with the proper bust of Ferdinand dated 1808 but these are very likely backdated. This type is much more common than those of Charles IV. Assayer M is recorded for 1786-1823.
