This specimen was lot 24483 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1819-M, MS61 NGC, sharply struck details with attractive medium gray patina and flashy surfaces. Rare in mint state." This type, called the "standard" or "proper" bust, was struck in Guatemala 1811-21. There are Guatemala eight reales with the proper bust of Ferdinand dated 1808 but these are very likely backdated. This type is much more common than those of Charles IV. Assayer M is recorded for 1786-1823.
