Künker sale 403, lot 1571

This specimen was lot 1571 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €380 (about US$499 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Clemens XII. 1730-1740. Testone 1736, Rom. Mit Wappen auf der Vorderseite und mit COMMODITAS · VIARVM · REDVX und dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Nicolò Casoni, auf der Rückseite. Fast vorzüglich. (Papal States, Clement XII, 1730-40, testone of 1736, Rome mint, with arms on the obverse and "COMMODITAS · VIARVM · REDVX" ('return of good roads') and the arms of the mintmaster on the reverse. About extremely fine.)"

This is a fairly scarce type. Another testone exists with the same reverse but with the papal bust on the obverse (Ber-2619). This type is listed in the SCWC for 1736 along with at least eight other types of testone, all scarce.

Specification: 7.93 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 8.31 g.
