Künker sale 403, lot 1577

The first specimen was lot 1576 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$446 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Clemens XII. 1730-1740. Giulio A VII (1736/1737), Rom. Mit Wappen auf der Vorderseite und mit A · A · A / F · F / RESTITVTVM / COMMERC · und dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Nicolò Casoni, auf der Rückseite. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. (Papal States, Clement XII, 1730-40, giulio of year 7, Rome mint, with the pope's bust on the obverse and "RESTITVTVM / COMMERC" ('commerce restored') and the arms of the mintmaster on the reverse. Extremely rare, fine toning, extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 1577 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,050 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Clemens XII. 1730-1740. Giulio A VII (1736/1737), Rom. Mit Wappen auf der Vorderseite und mit A · A · A / F · F / RESTITVTVM / COMMERC · und dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Nicolò Casoni, auf der Rückseite. Die Schrifttafel mit Bändern zum Aufhängen verziert. Sehr seltene Variante. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Papal States, Clement XII, 1730-40, giulio of year 7, Rome mint, with the pope's bust on the obverse and "RESTITVTVM / COMMERC" ('commerce restored') and the arms of the mintmaster on the reverse. The tablet with the inscription is decorated with ribbons for hanging. Very scarce variety, fine toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This denomination was struck 1734-36 in several varieties of cartouche or wreath on the reverse. Another giulio (KM 850) has the reverse motto "ABVNDET / IN / GLORIAM / DEI". These two examples may be from the same dies.

Specification: 2.74 g, 0.917 fine silver, both specimens 2.77 g.
