Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 1547

This specimen was lot 1547 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"MEXIQUE, Etats-Unis (1905-), AV 500 pesos (1/2 onza), 1992. Jaguar - Piedra de los soles. Ecrin. Certificat n° 105. Flan poli. (Mexico, gold 500 pesos (half ounce) of 1992. Jaguar sculpture, proof, with box and certificate.)"

This half ounce gold NCLT was designed to compete with the gold libertad but was not a success.

Recorded mintage: 12,000 + 2,000 proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold.
