This specimen is one of a type issued since the reform of the peso in 1992 (one new peso = 100 old pesos). In 1996, the design was modified to drop the "N" in front of the "$" and has been struck in that form since. When it was introduced, one dollar was about three pesos; today (December 2024), US$1 = 20.6 pesos.
Recorded mintage: 144,000,000.
Specification: 3.95 g, bimetallic (aluminum bronze center in stainless steel ring), 21 mm diameter, plain edge.
