The Mexico City mint struck this ten centavos with this design 1898-1905. It is a redesign of the ten centavos piece struck 1869-97; only the eagle was changed. All dates are common. The bronze one centavo and silver five and twenty centavos were similarly modified. The eight reales was dropped in favor of a silver peso with this eagle. The regime began closing the branch mints in 1893 and by 1905, only Culiacan and Zacatecas were left. Those two mints also closed in 1905 and the coinage redesigned. In the process, the ten centavos was reduced to 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver.
Recorded mintage: 266,000.
Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, reeded edge.
