Mexico 1905-Mo M 20 pesos
This specimen was lot 31352 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $14,687.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1905 Mo-M MS63 NGC, Mexico City mint. Choice Mint State with mostly reflective surfaces and the few scattered handling marks expected at this designation. Among the finest seen of this date and most elusive in this charming quality. From The FoxLair Collection." This type was struck at Mexico City 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1905MoM is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
Recorded mintage: 9,757.
Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .953 troy oz AGW.
