Mexico 1809-Mo TH 2 reales

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen is one of a series minted 1809-11 in Mexico City during the reign of Ferdinand VII. It uses the "imaginary bust" as Ferdinand, languishing in a French prison, was not available to have his portrait taken. The date is rather scarce; the SCWC prices the type at about double the preceding type of Charles IV. Assayer TH is recorded for 1804-1811.
