Mexico 1809-Mo TH 1/2 real

Shown is an 1809MoTH half real, one of a type struck in Mexico 1808-14. The "imaginary bust" shown of Ferdinand VII (used because Ferdinand was rotting in a French prison) was superseded by the "standard bust" used 1815-21. Assayer TH is recorded for the years 1804-10. The second specimen was lot 6945 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1809-TH. NGC MS-65. Single finest graded for the date at either NGC or PCGS. A real gem example that is sharply struck, highly lustrous and very attractive."
