Sedwick sale 11, lot 140

This type was struck 1809, 1811 and 1812 only and is much scarcer than the preceding escudo of Charles IV (KM 120) and the succeeding type with the standard bust (KM 122). The specimen shown was lot 140 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $644. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Mexico City, Mexico, bust 1 escudo, Ferdinand VII (armored bust), 1809HJ. Highly lustrous Mint State with lightly hairlined obverse fields, scarce type-coin."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.4 grams.
