This specimen was lot 1457 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $764. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Mantua. Ducatone, 1612. NGC VG-10. Francesco IV Gonzaga (February-December, 1612). SCARCE. Toned. From the Demarete Collection." The Gonzaga family managed to hold onto some autonomy as dukes of Mantua until its extinction in 1707, when the duchy fell to the Austrians. The catalog shows a wide variety of coinage from the duchy, nearly all rare. Francesco IV reigned only a few months in 1612.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 31.4-31.8 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-73; Varesi-563; Dav-3931.
