Mainz 1693-CB 60 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 4759 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,422 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MAINZ, ERZBISTUM, Anselm Franz von Ingelheim, 1679-1695. Gulden (60 Kreuzer) 1693, CB, Aschaffenburg. R Schöne Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben von der Münzenhandlung Waldemar Wruck, Berlin. (archbishopric of Mainz, Anselm Francis of Ingelheim, 1679-95, gulden or sixty kreuzer of 1693, Aschaffenburg mint. Rare, nice patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The archbishops of Mainz were prolific issuers of gold coins in the late middle ages but output dropped in the late fifteenth century, never to recover. This type was struck at Mainz in 1690-95. It was the last in a series of gulden struck beginning in 1671 and is somewhat available.
