Anselm Francis of Ingelheim (1634-95) succeeded Charles Henry as archbishop of Mainz in 1679. Unlike many of his predecessors, he held no other office. Mainz was occupied by the French army in 1688 which was besieged by imperial forces in 1689. The siege and resulting evacuation by the French (taking everything with them not nailed down) ruined a town already in decline. This type is listed in the SCWC for 1689-92 from Erfurt and Mainz.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver or billon, this specimen 2,81 g.
