This specimen was lot 22140 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mohamed Shah gold 5 Pahlavi SH1351 (1972), MS65 NGC, fully brilliant and attractive, scarcer date for this series. From The Richard P. Ariagno Collection." This type, struck SH 1339-1353 during the reign of Muhammed Reza Shah (r. 1941-79), was minted to the standard of a British five pounds. Gold one, 2½ (Fr-100) and ten pahlavis also exist. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
