This specimen was lot 2358 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $676. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. 1000 Rials, SH1350/ 1971 Choice Brilliant Proof. 2500th Anniversary of Persian Empire. Persepolis ruins. Choice Brilliant Proof." This commemorative is accompanied by silver 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200 rials (KM 1184-1188) and gold 500, 750 and 2000 rials (KM 1189, KM 1190, KM 1192). The megalomaniac shah did not do anything small.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 proofs.
Specification: 13.03 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.3770 troy oz AGW.
