Iran 1971 2000 rials
This specimen was lot 6796 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 2,000 Rials, SH 1350 (1971). NGC PROOF-65 ULTRA CAMEO. The largest denomination struck for the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire commemorative set. A few stray very light lines accounting for the slightly lower grade. Impressive nonetheless with bright lustrous fields and fully frosted well rendered devices." This commemorative is accompanied by silver 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200 rials (KM 1184-1188) and gold 500, 750 and 1000 rials (KM 1189, KM 1190, KM 1191). The megalomaniac shah did not do anything small.
