Sincona sale 67, lot 4197

This specimen was lot 4197 in Sincona sale 67 (Zürich, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Machine struck coinage, always with the mint name Tihrân, copper coins. 12 Dinars 1302 H. Above value in circle and wreath, rev. radiant head of Alexander in wreath. Very rare date. Very fine."

This copper type was struck AH 1301-03 and 1308 plus various bungled dates. This date is unpriced in KM. One shahi equalled fifty dinars so this coin was intended to be one-eighth shahi. With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran.
