Iran AH1299 toman

This specimen was lot 7219 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "IRAN. Toman, AH 1299 (1881/2). Tehran Mint. A few light marks. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. This type was struck AH 1297-1312 during the reign of Nasir al-din Shah (r. 1848-96). Gold two, ten and 25 tomans also exist. The coin is priced cheaply in the SCWC but is seldom seen.
