This specimen was lot 75221 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDONESIA. 250 Rupiah, 1970. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Commemorating the 25th anniversary of independence and displaying the Manjusri statue. A lovely and near perfect specimen, yielding impressive cameo contrast and mirrorlike fields." This NCLT is one of an extensive series of commemoratives issued in 1970. The obverse features a Manjusri statue from the Temple of Tumpang. Some Indonesian commemorative issues are so rare the SCWC lacks a photo of them. In 1982, US$1 = 650 rupiah; today (November 2022) US$1 = 15,654 rupiah.

Recorded mintage: 5,000 proofs.
