SB421-50138r.jpg

This specimen was lot 50138 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDONESIA. 10000 Rupiah, 1970. PCGS PROOF-63 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. Struck for the 25th anniversary of independence and featuring a Wayang dancer. A moderately handled example of this extremely popular modern gold issue. From the Pinnacle Collection." Being a scattered series of islands with differing traditions, Indonesia has struggled to remain a cohesive nation, hampered by corruption on a colossal scale. Some Indonesian commemorative issues are so rare the SCWC lacks a photo of them. In 1982, US$1 = 650 rupiah; today (October 2019) US$1 = 14,138 rupiah.

Recorded mintage: 1,440 proofs.

Specification: 24.68 g, 0.900 fine gold, .7141 oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-3; KM-30.
