from Steve Album sale 45, lot 1037

This specimen was lot 1037 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, 2 annas, 1926(b), a superb lustrous example! PCGS graded MS65." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515), was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed. Both Bombay and Calcutta struck two annas in 1926.

Recorded mintage: 2,927,000 plus proofs plus 8,352,000 from Calcutta.
