India 1927(b) 2 annas
This specimen was lot 71690 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1927-(B). Bombay Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Diamond shaped. Highly choice and brilliant, this gunmetal gray specimen retains some solid luster and offers far better quality than is generally encountered for the type." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515), was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed.
