This specimen was lot 1038 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, 2 annas, 1928(c), a lovely lustrous example! NGC graded MS63." The two annas, originally a silver coin (KM 515), was switched to copper-nickel in 1918 and struck to this design until 1936. Similar two annas were struck for George VI until 1947. The administration also attempted to circulate copper-nickel four and eight annas but failed. Both Bombay and Calcutta struck two annas in 1928.
Recorded mintage: 7,352,000 plus proofs plus 4,876,000 from Calcutta.
