This specimen was lot 3071 in Stephen Album sale 15 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2013), where it sold for $440. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: Edward VII, 1901-1910, AR ¼ rupee, 1908(c), proof restrike, NGC graded Proof 63, ex. John Page Collection." The quarter rupee struck during the Raj was about the size of a dime but contained about 12¢ of silver. All the Edward VII issues were struck at Calcutta except for a few made at Bombay in 1910.
Recorded mintage: 7,084,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver.
