Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74148

This specimen was lot 74148 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Rupee, 1905-(C). Calcutta Mint. Edward VII. NGC MS-65. A beautiful Gem specimen, this wholesome example yields much appealing lustrous charm." The quarter rupee struck during the Raj was about the size of a dime but contained about 12¢ of silver. All the Edward VII issues were struck at Calcutta except for a few made at Bombay in 1910.

Recorded mintage: 6,300,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver.
