Sincona sale 66, lot 1796

The first specimen was lot 1801 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Leopold I. 1657-1705 Vierteldukat 1696. Nagybanya. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, quarter ducat of 1696, Nagybánya mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 1796 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,370 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"HEILIGES ROMISCH REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. 1/4 Dukat 1696 NB, Nagybànya. Selten. Fast FDC. Leicht gewellt. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, one quarter ducat of 1696, Nagybánya mint. Rare, About uncirculated, Slightly wavy flan.)"

This product of the Nagybánya mint was struck 1684-85 and 1696. It is scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, the first specimen 0.84 g, the second specimen 0.85 g.
