This specimen was lot 33636 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Peso 1902 AU. Well struck with a sharp date. Far better than almost all of this normally crude type. Mintage unknown, but believed to be just a few pieces." This is a later date of a type struck 1888-1922. None are common, tho this is one of scarcer dates. In 1931, the peso was dropped in favor of the lempira and the mintage of gold for circulation ceased.
