Sincona sale 69, lot 863

This specimen was lot 863 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 8,200 CHF (about US$10,883 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Province of Holland. 2 Dukaten 1759. Abschlag von den Stempeln des Scheepjesschelling (6 Stüber). Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double ducat of 1759, off-metal strike using schilling dies. Very rare in this condition. NGC MS62, Magnificent condition.)"

The regular billon Scheepjesschelling was struck 1701-05, 1708-37, 1745-54, 1759-63, 1767, while the gold version was struck 1702-03, 1709, 1722-84, 1789-94.

Recorded mintage: 98,932 for circulation.

Specification: regular issue: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver; presentation version: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.95 g.
