This specimen was lot 33825 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $10,800. The lot description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Holland. Provincial gold 6 Stuivers 1738/6 MS64 NGC. An elusive off-Metal type of this "Scheepjesschelling" issue struck to the weight of 2 ducats. This representative faces up especially fine in hand, wearing watery expanses that border the recognizable ship motif, the oversized flan allowing the eye to fully explore the exceptional quality of the strike. Seldom encountered this close to Gem Mint State, rare as such. From the Coenen Collection." The six stuivers or scheepjesschelling struck for circulation (KM 45) was 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver. It was made 1701-37 and 1745-67 but not in 1738. The denomination was struck in gold for presentation 1702-03, 1709 and 1722-94 and, being carefully saved, usually comes nice. These presentation pieces must have been quite popular as all the provinces made them, using a variety of small denominations.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.93 g.

Catalog reference: KM 45a, PW-Ho74.2, Delm-816 (R1).
