This type was countermarked for the Kingdom of Hejaz, now the western part of Saudi Arabia, in the early 1920's. The coinage of Hejaz was initially comprised of countermarked coins from Turkey and Maria Teresa Thalers, with later regular issues until Hejaz was eventually assimiliated into Saudi Arabia. This coin is considered by some to be a spurious issue.
