This type was struck for the kingdom of Hejaz, now the western part of Saudi Arabia, in the early 1920's. It is accompanied by silver twenty, ten and five piastres and bronze one, half and quarter piastres. The producer was probably the Heaton Mint in England. The type is scarce and expensive today. This specimen was lot 1402 in Stephen Album sale 14 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2012), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "HEJAZ: al-Husayn b. Ali, 1916-1924, AV dinar hashimi, AH1334 year 8, NGC graded MS-64."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: gold. Weight is not given but probably about the size of a British sovereign.
